I plan to go to the Ellensburg meeting. I would guess the meeting would be around 6 PM but who knows. If you would like a ride with me from the EWA Club House, please post up. Seats are limited.
I just got off the phone with Mike Williams. He wants to invite users of the Naneum Ridge State Forest to a meeting to talk about adding recreation to that area. The DNR will be taking applications for the Recreation Committee. See more info below:

Subject: Naneum Ridge State Forest Recreation Planning
Hi:
I wanted to invite your groups to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Naneum Ridge State Forest Recreation Planning kickoff meetings. There will be two meetings, one in Ellensburg on April 18th (time and place to be determined) and Wenatchee on April 19th (time and place to be determined). There will be communications with the local media before the meetings also so it won’t be a surprise to the general public. Knowing about your groups and your interest in the Naneum area for recreation, I’m sure at least a representative from your groups will want to attend.
The DNR will be soliciting applications for a citizen committee (12 on the committee) to be part of the planning process over the next 16 months or so until fruition. DNR would like to see a good mix of both motorized and non-motorized recreationists on the committee to ensure the plan is fair and balanced.
If you would like me to include your group in the coming emails concerning the recreation plan please send me a contact name, phone number and email address.
Thanks and I hope to see your club at the kickoff meetings in mid-April. The kickoff meetings will be open to the general public.
Here is a link to our Ahtanum State Forest Recreation Plan that was completed in January 2010 to show what DNR will be creating in the process.

Subject: DNR Naneum State Forest Public Open House Meetings
April 12, 2012
Greetings:
Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites you to an open house initiating a
new recreation planning process for the 131,000 acres of DNR-managed lands in Naneum Ridge State
Forest in Kittitas and Chelan Counties. We have scheduled two open houses: one will take place on
April 25th in Ellensburg; the other on April 26th in Wenatchee.
The object is to develop a comprehensive plan for sustainably managing recreation in Naneum Ridge
State Forest over the next decade while preserving working forests that produce millions in non-tax
revenue for trust beneficiaries, including schools, universities and county governments.
At these open houses, DNR will demonstrate why it is developing a recreation management plan for
the area as well as which lands will be included in the plan. Following a brief presentation, you may
visit different “listening stations” and provide your ideas about recreation to DNR staff and learn about
additional ways to be involved in the planning process.

If you want motorized trails at the Naneum Ridge State Forest then show up and tell that to the DNR tonight! Last night in Ellensburg there were only about eight motorized people within the full house of users.

Many Opportunities Available for Recreation in Central Washington
Naneum Ridge State Forest offers tremendous opportunities for outdoor recreation in the central Washington region. In the past ten years, DNR has increased the amount of land it manages in the forest. Some are state trust lands — working forests; other lands form a large network of natural areas in the area. As a major provider of recreation opportunities in this landscape, DNR understands the need for a comprehensive and strategic approach to recreation management.

Public Will Have Opportunity to Share Ideas
A brief presentation by DNR staff on the planning process will kick off the meeting. Following the introductory presentation, the public will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas about recreation in a “listening station” format.
Recreation planning on DNR-managed lands
Comprehensive recreation planning is one of the key tools DNR uses to sustainably manage recreation on state trust lands and other lands, such as natural areas. Recreation planning helps ensure public safety, environmental protection, and access to outdoor recreation opportunities.
